Best Cat Litter

Ever since I move into an apartment, my worst nightmare will be poop house smell. I am very sensitive with odour and I never want my house smells like cat sanctuary. Having 3 cats in a 900sq ft with no corridor, means I need to put litter box in the house. My washing area has been renovated to wet kitchen, so no where to put litter box. In the end I decided to make my third and smallest room as kitty room. I still got to open the kitty room door so they can have access to living room, so poop scent can access living room too. Oh no!!

I tried nearly all super premium brand.

1. Trustie Clumping Litter - I used this back in my old home. Since it is landed home and kitty are semi outdoor, I put litter box outside. So I never know how smelly litter box can be until I used this brand in my apartment. Pendek peed, the next thing, the whole room smells. It takes  2 time poop and the whole house smells.

2. Pine wood / paper type litter - Never ever wanna try. I know my house will smell wood. Wood + pee = disaster!

3. Arms & Hammer Multi-cat Strength Clumping Litter - I always thought that Arms & Hammer is a well known for quality litter sand since it is made of baking soda. Baking soda is good in absorbing odour, and moisture.YES. IT IS EXPENSIVE! But to my disappointment, it doesn't really work. I got to clean litter box once a day. And it takes 3 cats to poop in a day to make the room stinks.

Then, there they were.... my saviour.....

Ever Clean Multiple cat (RM69.90 for 25lbs) & Ever Clean Extra Strength (RM39.90 for 10lbs). I tried Ever Clean Multiple Cat and Extra Strength Scented. Both works perfectly. I have 3 poop machine (my kitties),  I clean once a day, sometimes 2 days once, litter box never smells. House?? My most fussy aunty went visit and did not believe I have 3 cats.

1 box of 10lbs can last for 1 month for 1 cat. Since I have 3 cats, 25lbs last me one month supply. All I got to do is put litter sand in box, make sure it is 5cm deep, then add on litter sand when sand in litter box gets lesser. As for dust, I can say it is not dusty but tracks. So I get litter sand bit on the floor, in my living room, on the carpet, lil bit of here and there. But I don't mind sweeping my home everyday. As long as no kitty smell, it is good enough for me.

Flea shampoo review

Tulipspet Flea Shampoo

This week gonna be review week. I've tried few products for 1-3 months to see how effective commercial pet products are in our market today.

Today, gonna talk about flea shampoo by Tulispet.

Product claim that it prevents pet from pest's bites & infestation, improves and maintain pet's health & skin, enhances coat brilliance & shine, and shampoo is PH controlled. It is recommended for dogs & cats with extreme poor coat condition. It is poison free, human & pet safe.

How to use this shampoo? Wet fur thoroughly. Apply shampoo generously. Avoid eyes, nose and mouth. Scrub, then rinse and dry well. (If flea presence, add a mixture of shampoo and sufficient water ; ratio 2:1; rub mixture into fur and skin and leave for 5 minutes, then rinse)

My verdict?

Oh yes! This is my second bottle!! My all time favourite. It not only kills flea, but makes kitty coat soft and shiny. I didn't realize what this shampoo can do until one of my customer told me that her cat's coat is sooo soft after I bath her kitty. She told me that her kitty's coat never as this soft and smooth though she uses spa shampoo. 

Er, well, that's the power of Tulipspet Shampoo. Shampoo is also suitable for dogs. Nice.. Expensive doesn't mean good, cheap doesn't mean bad. As for price wise, 350ml cost me RM12.50 at Pet Lover Centre. 

Some tips when using flea shampoo, before wet kitty's fur, mix shampoo with lil bit of water. Quickly smear mixture onto kitty's neck. Make sure mixture penetrate fur until kitty's skin. This is to avoid flea hide in kitty's ear when bathing. After you've smear mixture onto kitty's neck, you can start wet kitty's fur and follow product's directions.

Foot note: Guys, remember, to kill/prevent flea, it doesn't work if you only shampoo your cat with flea shampoo. Since Malaysia is tropical climate, we have hot and humid all year round. This mean, flea can breed all year round as well. Flea shampoo only kill adult flea by suffocating them. This mean, egg can always hatch, larvae grow and turn into adult flea. What you need to do is cut the life circle.
1. Shampoo kitty with flea shampoo to kill adult.
2. Put on flea spot on to kill larvae
3. Use flea collar to prevent flea picnic on your kitty's body.

Flea that you see on your kitty's body is just 1% of flea in your home or garden. Flea can always live in carpet, furniture, parquet, and garden. So, once you spot flea on your cat, you shouldn't just think about killing fleas on kitty, but in your home as well. All you need are:
1. mosquito spray (water base) - Spray your furniture, parquet, carpet and even your garden.
2. vacuum.
3. put moth ball (ubat gegat) in vacuum cleaner dust bag, furniture. - moth ball kills flea egg, larvae as well as adult.
4. repeat til no more flea at home.

I know it is a hassle when your home has flea infestation. That is why, prevention is better than cure..

Ear Mites Buster

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAhhhhhh, Pendek has ear mites! Surfing through Pet Lover Centre @ Mines, this caught my eyes! Shaws Ear Care Lotion. It clears ear wax, debris & mites. For dogs, cats and small animal as well. Interesting....

Product claims that it contains a very mild, non-ionic, deep cleansing agent, completely safe for delicate ear tissue. It gently penetrates dirt, wax, mite infested debris or excretions of purulent discharge and allows it all to be washed away. Mites and bacteria are firmly detached from within folds and crevices, and discouraged from re-infestation. Pet will feel healthier and more comfortable.

My verdict?

Yes!! I love it!!! Think this is one of the good product I should keep in my cat emergency box in case any kitty gets ear mites. Since it is multipurpose, I can even use to wipe away the ear wax. So far, it really cures Pendek's ear mite problem. I clean everyday for 3 days until he stops scratching his ear. And YAY! until now he has no ear mite problem. Once a month, I'll clean his ear wax.

This month, I had the chance to test on a natural herbal remedies for animal by Phytopet. Before visiting Malaysia, Ashida, (owner of a cat whom I cat sit) asked me if there's any product I want to buy from an online shop http://www.swallowhealthydiet.com. After browsing through, I decided to buy two items, one of them was Phytopet - Garlic & Echinacea. It is used to treat bacterial, fungal, or viral infection. Especially acute infection.

Our fund nearing empty after treating 6 kittens with flu, fungus infection and mange. Now we have 12 cats having flu. We managed to send 1 cat to vet, others we can't effort. So I decided to give Phytopet a try. I gave them Phytopet - Garlic & Echinacea for 2 weeks now, and they are getting better. At first, their eyes were totally shut with sticky yellow liquid. Nose totally blocked with mucus. And they have difficulties in breathing. About 3-4 days after medication, their health improve. By then, they only have wet nose, a bit of watery eyes, and normal sneezing (no mucus flying around when sneeze). Like human, herbs equals to nasty taste. Same goes to cats. I have hell hard time to feed them those remedies. To my surprise, it really works. As for now, 3 cats are fully recovered, others will continue giving them the herbs until we have adequate money to send them to vet.

Pro:
1. It works. Besides giving them Phytopet, I put eye drops for their eyes.

Cons:
1. Not available in Malaysia. You need to order & ship it from U.K
2. Nasty taste. Cats totally hates it. You need to have very good handling skills.

Catit Litter Scoop Review

Catit Litter Scoop in Ultramarine Blue

Finally, I'm done with my internship. I am having two weeks break and I know there's nothing much to do so I went to Pet Lover's Centre in Ikano, Mutiara Damansara. I always wish I have a gigantic litter scoop so I can just scoop once to collect all the clumped clay. I have two XL and five M size litter box, it is tiring if you have small litter scoop to do the job.

Atlast I found my saviour.

Gigantic, yes!
Cheap? Oh yes yes yes! I bought for RM4. Yeah, can't believe my eyes. I thought the worker stick the wrong price. I recheck. It is RM4.

It is not a "lembik" scoop. Pretty solid. You can't even bend it.

As for the performance, I am quite dissapointed. It doesn't hold clumps well, especially tiny ones. The scoop hole is a little big to hold some tiny clumps so I can still see tiny, tiny clumps in the box. As for large clumps, oh yeah, I can scoop the whole poo in one time. In the end, I still need to use my old small litter scoop to scoop those tiny clumps. I have kittens and adults. So I have variety size of clumps. Meanwhile, the worst part is that, if you wanna use this gigantic scoop for your S or M size litter box, just forget about it!! It totally doesn't cleans. Ah, logically, of course you can't use large scoop for small litter box.

It will be the perfect scoop if Hagen shrink the size of the scoop's hole. As for my conclusion, if you want express service, yes, this scoop defenitely will help.

Water Fountain

Catit Water Fountain which I bought 3 years ago

I'm the lazy kinda person, especially when it comes to providing clean water 24 7. Cats need fresh and clean water to drink. And since my cats love touching the water before drinking, sometimes their fur, dirt, ants, bugs and what so ever goes into the water bowl. I remembered of changing their water about 6 times a day. That is damn tiring!

So I bought Catit Water Fountain by Hagen for RM87 with free dish bowl which I can hookup beside the water fountain. That was way back in 2007. Now the price rose up to RM102. Lucky me!

Let me share you the pros of the water fountain:-

1. Obviously you don't have to change the water bowl 6 times a day like me.

2. The water fountain allow us to store 3 liter of water, which last for 3 days for 12 cats.

3. There is water filter, so what your cat drinks is clean water. All those dirt, fur, what so ever things is filtered.

4. The water is circulated to maintain its freshness. Many cats drink more when they are around "running water".

5. It is a good tool to promote adequate water intake. Good investment for your cat's health too.

6. Good quality & very solid. I've used it for 3 years, every single part is still working. The water pump, the plug etc. Well, that actually depends on how you take care of it. If you make it as a football, of course it'll not last that long.

The cons:-

1. A throat chocking price.

2. When the water in the water fountain storage is empty, there will be a loud noise coming out from the fountain. Sound of the fountain's pump pumping without the water. But it's a good alarm for you to fill it up.

3. You need to change the filter monthly. Cleaning the filter is kinda messy because when you brush out dirt from the filter, you need to do it gently. Preferable using old toothbrush. Else the filter layer may come out, and all the carbon tablets may falls out of the filter.
