Happy Belated Birthday Bubu's Shelter

I was busy editing this blog, reading my previous post, searching for my grammar error (yeah, I am preparing myself for IELTS) and that is when I realize that this blog was opened on 7th July 2007. What a coincidence.. 07.07.07. Nice date!! Though it's 10th July, it is not too late to wish Happy Birthday Bubu's Shelter. Bubu's Shelter has been running for 2 years and I am proud of B.S team, friends, readers, adopters, and everyone who's supported Bubu's Shelter from the beginning. For the past 2 years, we've successfully rehomed 19 cats and still counting.. I thank for everyone's support and effort in helping me maintaining Bubu's Shelter. I also wanna thank Shah Alam Vet (Seksyen 13) & Baby Pets Vet Sri Kembangan for charging me a very reasonable medication & treatment fees. A million thanks to everyone who's donated to Bubu's Shelter. Ashida & Faridzun for the 3ft cage, bowls, litter box, cat bed, and cat condo. Oui Mils for the litter scoop, and everyone who donated to Bubu's Shelter. Not to forget everyone who shopped at ThisCatShop.blogspot.com. Every penny you spend there I use to feed, treat, and pamper them. I also wanna thank everyone who promotes Bubu's Shelter and spread the word about our effort in helping the helpless out there. I hope what I've done now will create a new trend in Malaysia which are:

1. more non-kill shelter will be open in Malaysia.

2. more animal rescuer, animal behaviourist, volunteers are born.

2. create the trend of adopting pets rather than buying from backyard breeder or pet mills.

3. create a trend of learning about the pets and understanding them. Pets are not decoration. They are life which completes ours.

I hope more Malaysian will be enlighten especially about animal welfare, about neutering, about animal behaviours, and about the animal itself.

Warmest Regards,
Founder of Bubu's Shelter

Vet visit

I just came back from Baby Pets vet in Sri Kembangan. Weena and Kimky are having diarrhea. They slim down a lot. Vet shows me the worm larvae in the monitor. OMG! its creepy! seriously creepy! Tiny dots swimming around.. OMG!

Vet told me reasons of them having diarrhea : -

1. Worm.. those worms in their tummy.. I bet after the deworming they'll poop worms..

2. Change of diet. Yeah, I gave them those kitten food sample I got from the Pet Exhibition last Sunday.

3. Feline parvovirus is a virus which causing Panleukopenia or feline distemper. Since they are kitten and haven't get their immunization yet (vaccined), so they are at the high risk. Panleukopenia, or feline distemper, is a contagious viral disease that primarily affects young kittens, but any aged cat is susceptible. This virus is generally widespread, and natural exposure is common. Despite early maternal protection, infection of newborn kittens is frequent. Clinical signs include: fever, loss of appetite, vomiting, depression, diarrhea, dehydration, and death.

All the way to and fro, both of them suckle each others ear in the carrier. I can even hear the suckling sound. Imagine how loud it is..

Hello world

There's a few kittens we rescued for the past 5 weeks..

Greg, adopted..

5 weeks ago, one of my friend rescued a kitten wondering around the parking area. We named her Greg because she's scruffy and she has husky meow. We searched her mother but no where to be found. It is weird because at the office building, we never bump any strays. Not even stray dogs. It is impossible if the kitten walks from nearby housing area because the office building is like 2-3km from the nearest housing area. It is like meeting a kitten in the middle of Silicon Valley. Yeah, Cyberjaya is some sort of Malaysia's version of Silicon Valley. Greg was adopted by Chomaine.

This is Late Weena

This is Late Kimky

Last 3 weeks ago, Kimky, Weena, and Late MiniMe was rescued by one of my friend at Taman Melati. Feared for their safety, my friend brought them back to Bubu's Shelter. Late MiniMe died for no reason 2 weeks later. We named MiniMe because she's so tiny. Half the size of other siblings. Yeah! Like the Austin Power Mini Me. Meanwhile Kimky had a minor injury behind her ear. Both of them love suckle each other. I bet they missed their mom. Such playful kittens. Whenever they are adult in sight, Weena and Kimky will run towards those adult cats, hoping they could suckle their nipples. Poor kids.. I'm trying to make Panjang, my cat, as their suckle doll like what I did to Hope and Late Rashidah 3 years ago. Somehow, Panjang doesn't want to.. It takes time I guess..

Giant, adopted..

Last 1 1/2 week ago, we rescued Giant after doing my monthly grocery at Giant Shah Alam. This little guy was crossing the busy road nearby the Hypermarket. Don't want any road kill incident infront of our eyes, we grab this little guy who was in shock, lost, blur, confused, and put him to a safe place. Then this little guy hugged, and suckle my shirt. Okay.. You're coming with me little guy. I assume he lost his way because there's a housing area across the Hypermarket. We named him Giant since we rescued him nearby the Giant Hypermarket. All the way back to my home, Giant sleep on the car floor mat, then he shift to the back seat - continue sleeping. Oh my God! He's not afraid of car ride. Like he knows he's going to THE paradise. When I reached home, I put him in my hobo bag. He just sit quietly in there. Seriously, he seems to know this is his destiny.
A week later, he was adopted by Aiza. What a lucky guy.. You really knows your destiny.

B.G, male, 4-5 months old. Adopted

2 days ago, my friend rescued this poor kitty at the Mamak Stall nearby my home.By the way, Mamak means Indian Muslim Restaurant. His name is B.G. His age is approximately 4-5 months old. My friend saw B.G been bullied by other big stray cats. He looks so scared. My friend assume he was dumped by his previous owner because we never see this cat mingle around before at the stall. Can't stand looking B.G been bullied, my friend bought him back to Bubu's Shelter. We haven't bath him yet when this picture is taken. Look how scruffy and dirty he is!

Smudge, female, 5 months old.Adopted

Meanwhile Smudge, she's behaving really really really good lately. I thought she's sick, but everything is O.K. She sleeps on her favourite spot - on the toilet floor mat. Yeah, you smell feet my dear! Wondered why are you so well behave, Smudge, while the others are so freaking naughty! While others dig the dumpster, you just looked at them. While others fight for food, you wait till your turn. While others do house renovation (moving all my books, pens, small things, papers, whatever they can push and move it), you just play with provided toys. Good girl, Smudge.. So adorable.. Whenever I pick her up, or pet her, she'll purr. Purr til the end..

Eva, female, adopted

Bet you never hear story about her. This is Eva. We rescued her 4 months ago nearby my home. She was lost, so we brought her home. No flyers, no words, no nothing about this missing cat. Ever since then, she stayed at my home, playing, eating, sleeping. She was adopted by Pn. Nora & Family. Eva was so excited to go to her new home til she doesn't runaway or scared of the roaming car. She sat in a tiny box, on Pn. Nora's daugther's lap, while looking outside the windshield. When I wave my goodbye, I saw Eva was making "Uh..Uh.. new adventure awaits me.." face. She was so eager of going to her new home. I'm so happy seeing Eva like that. Atleast I know she's happy to be rehomed.

a call

My phone rang. The number appeared was not in my address book, so I picked it up. Sounds like a middle aged man. He told me that he's moving out to a new home and they are not allowed to have cats. Since I am full hand, I told him that I will give him other rescuer number so he could call them for help. But he insist of giving the cat to me because I am living in Cyberjaya. He said "I don't have time to contact any other person. My son is busy doing his assignment so we don't have time to go anywhere. I'll pay you money if you want. As long as I can get rid of the cat. I don't care what you wanna do with the cat. Euthanize her if you want too." I was so shocked to hear his statement. Please don't lie. MMU just start their semester, Lim Kok Wing is on holiday, and CUCMS just finished their final exam. So, which University is your son in? I asked him, "How old is your cat? Is she neutered?"

He replied, "3 years old female cat. What is neutered?"

I replied obnoxiously, "Has your cat being pregnant?"

He replied, "Yes, lots of time. You see, if we live at the top floor, I don't mind just leave the cat here, but we lived at the ground floor. No matter what, she'll find her way back to our home."

Oh ok, I thought you said that you are moving out. Now you're telling me that the cat will always find his way back though you're at your new home?

I told him to contact SPCA. Sadly, he don't know what is SPCA. I told him "google SPCA, you can refer the map in their website. They are well funded, they'll assist you."

He asked, "will they come here to pickup the cat?"

Huh? Pickup the cat? I replied, "No, you need to send to their place."

I felt guilty of not helping the cat. My home currently is over populated. A couple of days back, we rescued a kitten who's terrified in the middle of a busy road. We name him Giant since we found him at Giant Shah Alam. 2 weeks back, a friend of mine rescued three 5 months old kittens. My boarding service is overwhelming currently. It is over-full house. I board more than the maximum capacity of 7 cats only. Currently I have 9 cats boarding with me. If I have solid fund, yes, I would help the cat. If I have the land, yes I will help the cat. Even I am not well fed now.

Officially, I have 25 cats at home!! Whoaaaaa...

What Malaysian need is EDUCATION. It is very important for us who are the enlighted ones to educated those who don't know about neuter, animal welfare, about being ethical, about being kind, about being not ignorant and selfish. We need to help the ones who can't speak - animals & mother nature..
